Banana River Aquatic Preserve:

Blue Cypress Lake:

  Camping Areas:
    Middleton Fish Camp, from its junction with the Florida Turnpike 28 miles west of Vero Beach, go east on SR 60 for 5.8 miles.  Turn left on Blue Cypress Lake Road and continue about 4 miles to the campground at the end of this washer board road.  Free, flush toilets, cold shower, dumpster.  Restroom & drinking water 100 from camp areas.


Canaveral National Seashore:

  Boat Launches:
     Take route 1 south through New Smyrna & Edgewater.  River Breeze County Park is at the Oak Hill city limits on the right.  Canaveral National Seashore, North Entrance has 5 put ins, a boat ramp on the right as soon as you enter the park, a dirt road at Turtle Mound, a short carry at the Information Center and a boat ramp on the Eldora Road Loop and one at the end of the North Entrance. Eddy Creek between parking lots 7 & 8 at the Canaveral NSS, South Entrance


Chassahowitzka River:

Boat Boat Launches:
  From its junction wit US 19 & US 98 (about 5 miles south of Homosassa Springs) take CR480 west 1.7 miles and turn right into campgrounds.  Boat ramp to the right.  $2/parking fee.


Crystal River:

  Crystal River, from its junction with CR 494 (Ozello Trail) between Homosassa Springs & Crystal River turn west and follow it to 9 miles to the end and the Boat Boat Launches:  Free.
 Crystal River, Fort Island Trail Park, from its junction with US 19/US 98 take SR 44 (Fort Island Trail) west 4.7 miles and turn right at park sign.  Go .1 miles and turn right again to Boat Boat Launches:  Currently free.
  Crystal River, Pete's Pier, from the junction of US 19/US 98 and SR 44 (Fort Island Trail) continue north on US 19/US 98 .6 miles and turn left onto Kings Bay Drive.  Follow this road .6 miles, turn right onto SW 1st PL .1 miles to Boat Boat Launches:  $5
  Crystal River, Crystal River Preserve State Park, from its junction with CR 495 continue north on US 19/US 98 1.6 miles and turn left at the park signs onto State Park Street.  Follow signs about 2 miles to the Visitor Center.  Canoe/Kayak launch on the far side of canal.   Crystal River, Fort Island Beach Park, from its junction with US 19/US 98 take SR 44 west 8.7 miles to Boat Boat Launches:  Free.

     From Sebastian Inlet Bridge take A1A south 3 miles to Jungle Trail on left.  A good put in can be  found 1 mile or so down this road.
         510 west from A1A.  Take 2nd left after crossing the ICW.


Indian River Aquatic Preserve (lower):

  Camping Areas:
     Sebastian, Donald McDonals Country Park, from it's junction with CR 512 in Sebastian, take CR 505 (Roseland Road) north for about 2.5f miles and turn left into the campground.  $15/night ($10 if 65 or older).  Flush toilets, hot showers, trash cans, Boat Boat Launches:  Right next to municipal airport.

Lake Kissimmee:

     Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area, from its junction with US 441 or the Florida Turnpike about 35 miles west of Vero Beach, take CR 523 north 11.0 miles to the campground on the left (2.0 miles past the Lake Jackson WMA sign).  Call 407-436-1818 for free permit.  Free, toilets.  Parker Hammock Camp, Dry Pond Camp and Lake Jackson Camp can be found down the first WMA sign.  Call 352-732-1225 for free permit.  $3/person day use fee here.      Lake Wales, Lake Kissimmee State Park $12.  Rating: Campgrounds - Excellent, Noise - Good.  Beautiful camp area among large live oaks with Spanish moss.  Sites very private with lots of tall palmettos between sites.  Fishing boats going out at dawn.      Lake Wales, Harbor RV Resort & Marina - $17

   Lake Kissimmee, from its junction with US 441 or the Florida Turnpike about 35 miles west of Vero Beach, take CR 523 north 15 miles and turn left onto Joe Overstreet Road.  Follow this dirt road about 4 miles to the blat ramp.

Lake Wales Ridge State Forest:

  Contact: Lake Wales Ridge State Forest, 452 School Bus Road, Frostproof, FL 33843 (863) 635-7801.   Camping Areas:      Walk In The Water Campground, from its junction with SR17 in Frostproof, take CR 630 east 4.6 miles.  Turn left on Walk In The Water Road, go 1.4 miles and turn left into the campground.  $5/night, Porti-Potti, dumpster.
     Reedy Creek Campground, from its junction with SR 17 in Frostproof, take CR 630 east .5 miles.  Turn right on Lake Reedy Blvd.  Follow this road 4.7 miles and turn left on Lake Arbuckle Road.  Follow it 1.4 miles and turn right on Rucks Dairy (dirt) Road.  .9 miles will bring you to the campground on the left.  $5/night, Porti-Potti, dumpster.  If you follow Lake Arbuckle Road another 3.5 miles to the end you'll find Lake Arbuckle RV Campground and Boat Boat Launches:

  Boat Boat Launches:      Walk In The Water Lake, continue on Walk In The Water Road 2.2 miles past the campground (see above).  Turn right onto Boat Landing Road and follow it .2 miles to the public Boat Boat Launches:   Lake Arbuckle continue past Rucks Dairy Road (see above) 3.5 miles to the end you'll find Lake Arbuckle RV Campground and Boat Boat Launches:


Little Big Econ State Forest:

Camping:
Sanford, Little Big Econ State Forest, from it's junction with US 17 take SR 46 east 10.4 miles.  Turn right on CR 246 and go 4.2 miles.  Turn left on Barr Street.  Trailhead on corner.  Barr Street is a private drive.  I didn't see evidence of a camping area.  Camp in open area by trailhead.  Camp ground clearly shown on two different maps I've seen.  There are two riverside campsites also shown. Permit for forestnbsp;Camp probably required.  Contact: Little Big Econ State Forest, 1350 Snow Hill Road, Geneva, FL 32732 (407) 971-3500.  From SR 46 turn onto CR426 as described above.  Turn onto Snow Hill Road at .7 miles and continue 2.2 miles to the state forest office on the right.

Sanford, Mullet Lake Park, from it's junction with US 17 take SR 46 east 6.0 miles.  Turn left on W. Osceola Road and go 1.4 miles.  Turn left on Mullet Lake Road and go 1.8 miles.  Flush toilets, shower, dumpster, boat ramp (airboats).  Gate locked - permit required.  Call (407) 788-0609.


Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge:

  Boat Launches:
     Plenty of area to put in on both sides of the route 406 bridge to Merritt Island in Titusville.      Plenty of launches to both Mosquito Bay and Indian River on Kennedy Parkway. A couple of official boat ramp and several Public Access Routes used by waterfowl hunters (in season) to launch their skiffs near their blinds.


Mosquito Lagoon:

     Port Orange, Nova Family Campgrounds (listed under Daytona) $16 (modem)
    Rating: Campgrounds - Fair  Noise - Poor  Nice & clean.  A lot of street noise, motorcycles, trains and airplanes.
     New Smyrna, Sugar Mill Ruins Travel Park $20

  Launches:

  Sarasota, Myakka River State Park: From it's junction with US 41 in Coral Cove (south Sarasota) take FL 72 east about 10 miles and turn left into the park.  $24/night, flush toilets, water, hot shower, dumpster.  Camping Areas: Excellent  Campsites: Poor  Noise: Fair  Generators kicking in during the night.  Beautiful, beautiful park, lousy, lousy campsites stacked on top of each other.  Airboats.

Boat Launches:   Sarasota, Upper Myakka River, Myakka River State Park, 3 miles past Big Flat Campground near north entrance.
  Sarasota, Upper Myakka Lake, Myakka River State Park, 3 miles past FL 72 visitor center.  At fork, continue straight.
  Arcadia, Peace River, Desoto County Park at east end of FL 70 bridge over Peace River in Arcadia

  Ruskin, E.G. Simmons Campground, from it's junction with US 41 just north of town, turn left onto 19th Ave and go 2 miles.  Turn right at stop sign and go .2 miles to campground.  $10/night, flush toilets, all sites have water/electric, hot showers, dumpster.  A fair amount of jet plane noise during the day from Tampa.  Not bad (in my van) at night.
Parrish, Lake Manatee State Park Area, reservations by www.reserveamerica.com.   Palmetto, Frog Creek Campground $13 - Modem (wall jack available 9am-11am, no electrical outlet)     Rating: Camping Areas: Good     Noise: Fair
    Pretty, Live Oaks & Spanish moss.  Frog Creek it really pretty.  Wimauma, Little Manatee State Recreation Area

  Boat Launches:
     Ruskin, Cockroach Bay, from the Little Manatee River Bridge south of Ruskin, follow US 41 south 2.7 miles and turn right onto Cockroach Bay Road.  Follow it 2.9 miles to public Boat Launches:
     Palmetto, Terra Ceia Bay, from Business US 41 in Palmetto, turn west on 10th Street and go 2.3 miles.  Turn left onto Tarpon Road at the Emerson Point Preserve sign and go 1 block.  Turn left onto Caloosa Road at the preserve sign and go .7 miles to the Emerson Point Preserve entrance (free).  Follow the preserve road about 1/2 mile to the Terra Ceia Trail parking lot and a small sign saying canoe launch.  It's about 1 mile out a narrow channel to the bay.
     Palmetto, Terra Ceia Bay, from the above canoe launch,continue another 1.0 mile to the end of the road and another boat launch area.   Piney Point, Bishop Harbor, from it's junction with CR 674 in Ruskin follow US 41 south 10.2 miles or from Palmetto follow US 41 north about 7 miles.  Turn west onto Bishop Harbor Road at the blinking light and follow it .5 miles to the put in on the right.
    Parrish, Little Manatee River: From its junction with CR 674 in Sun City Central follow SR 301 2.9 miles and cross the Little Manatee Bridge.  Turn right into www.canoeoutpost.com or continue back under the bridge to a put in.  Canoe Outpost charges $5/boat to launch, $20/boat to shuttle.  Parrish, Little Manatee River State Park, Little Manatee River: From its junction with CR 674 in Sun City Central follow SR 301 4.0 miles and turn right at the State Park sign.  Continue .1 miles and turn right again into the park.  Launch fee is $4.00.
    Parrish, Upper Manatee River, from it's junction with US 301 take CR 675 south 2.0 miles.  Turn right on Rye Road and continue 3.3 miles.  (road was closed in 2007 for construction).


Weeki Wachee River:

  Camping Areas:
  See Chassahowitzka River & Withlacoochee State Forest.

  Boat Launches:
    Weeki Wachee, from its junction with US 19/US 98 take CR 550 3.2 miles west and turn left onto CR597.  Continue 1.4 miles past the bridge to Rogers Park on the left.  $2/parking fee.
     Bayport, from its junction with US 19/US 98 take CR 550 6 miles west to the end and the Boat Launches:  Follow the channel markers to the left to the river.


Withlacoochee State Forest:

  Contact: Withalacoochee State Forest, 15003 Broad Street, Brooksville, FL 34601 (353) 754-6896.

  Camping Areas:
    Hog Island Campground, Exit 309 on I 75 south of Bushnell.  Follow CR 476B north about 2 miles to CR 476 and turn left.  Follow CR 476 west about 2 miles and turn left on CR 635 at the Hog Island Recreation Area sign.  Follow this road 1.1 miles to the campground.  $12/night $6/night if over 65.  Flush toilets, showers, water @ each site, trash bin in shed at end of campground loop.

   Boat Launches:
     River Junction Recreation Area, turn left at the entrance to the from Hog Island Campground (above) rather than right into the campground.  Follow this road 50 yards and turn right at the first (unsigned) dirt road and follow it 5.1 miles to the River Junction Recreation Area. $12/night $6/night if over 65.  Flush toilets, showers, water @ each site, trash bin in shed at end of campground loop.  Boat Launches:
     Holder Mine Hunt Camp, from its junction with FL 44 a couple of miles west of Inverness, take CR 581 south 3.7 miles and turn right at the Holder Mine Recreation Area sign.  Follow this road 1.5 miles to the campground.  Sign says $5/night for licensed hunters only.  Call above number to confirm or deny.
     Mutual Mine Campground, from its junction with FL 44 a couple of miles west of Inverness, take CR 581 south 6.3 miles and turn right at the Mutual Mine Recreation Area sign.  $12/night, chemical toilets, trash pickup.  Didn't notice any water just driving through.
     Tillis Hill Horse Camp, from its junction with FL 44 a couple of miles west of Inverness, take CR 581 south 10.3 miles and turn right onto CR 480.  Follow CR 480 go 3.3 miles and turn right at the Tillis Hill Recreation Area sign.  Follow this road 1.4 miles, turn right and go .5 miles to the campground.  Sign says reservations only.  Didn't see price/night, just donation box.  Call above number to confirm or deny.
  Silver Lake Recreation Area, from it's junction with I 75 (about 10 miles east of Brooksville) continue east on SR 50 about 1 mile and turn left on Croom/Rital Road.  Follow this road 3.5 files and turn right into recreation area.    Camp fee/day use fee.  Right next to I 75.


Withlacoochee River:

  Camping Areas:
See Withlacoochee State Forest Hog Island Campground above.
    East Hunt Camp, from the Iron Bridge boat ramp (see below), bear left for .3 miles and turn left into   Camp area.  $5/night.  Very close to I 75.

  Boat Launches:
    The boat launch in the Withlacoochee State Forest Hog Island Campground is on to a small tributary that feeds into the Withlacoochee River in 100 yards.  Follow path along stream to determine if you want to paddle/pull your boat on this sandy bottom.  From the Withlacoochee State Forest Hog Island Campground turn left at the entrance rather than right into the campground.  Follow this road 50 yards and turn right at the first (unsigned) dirt road and follow it 3 miles to the Iron Bridge launch area.   From the Withlacoochee State Forest River Junction Recreation Area, bear right and follow the day use road .7 miles to the boat ramp at the end.
