 You can only sign on for 2 nights at a time at Georgia State Parks

More than that has to go through their reservation system (1-800-864-PARK) via credit card.  $3 day use fee in addition to any camping fees.  $30 for annual pass.


Altamaha River:

  Big Hammock WMA, primitive, no toilets or water.  $Free  (from GA 169 and GA 178 (southwest of Glenville), continue south on GA 169 4.0 miles.  Turn left at Big Hammock WMA sign just before bridge river Altamaha River)
  Bullard Creek WMA, from the Bullard Creek WMA launch below, continue on US 221, .3 miles and take the first right.  There are some possibilities for primitive camping at the very first right.  Note: this boat launch is inaccessible but there's potential camping spots.
Boat Launches:
  Big Hammock WMA, Altamaha River, from Big Hammock WMA camping area (above) follow signs 2.6 miles to J.E. Landing and boat ramp.
  Bullard Creek WMA, Altamaha River, from junction of US 221 & GA 56 continue south on US 221 for 5.2 miles.  Turn left and follow road to launch.

Altamaha Wildlife Management Area:

  Darien, Altamaha Wildlife Management Area hunt camp, from its junction with US 17, follow SR 251 NW 4 miles.  Continue straight where SR 251 bears right.  Continue another 5.4 miles and turn left at the Buffalo Swamp sign.  Continue 1.2 miles and turn left at the Camping Area sign.  Free, no facilities.  Public boat ramp 2.4 miles south of Darien on US 17 at the far side of the 3rd bridge.

Bullard Creek Wildlife Management Area:

  Hazelhurst, Bullard Creek Wildlife Management Area hunt camp, from its junction with US 341 take Us 221 6.9 miles & turn right then left .25 miles to established campground.  Free, no facilities.  Left from US 221 then right and .7 miles to boat ramp.

Cedar Creek Wildlife Management Area:

  Monticello, Cedar Creek Wildlife Management Area hunt camp, from its junction with KY 16, go east on SR 212 about 11 miles (or go west on SR 212 from US 129) to the check station sign.  Free, no facilities.

Chattahoochee National Forest:

  Blue Ridge, Whispering Pines Campground $15

  Blairsville, Goose Creek $14
  Clayton, War Woman Wildlife Management Area hunt camp, from its junction with US 76W turn north on US 411 and then make a right on War Woman Road.  Follow this road 3.3 miles and turn left on Finney Creek Road.  A check station (un-manned) is at .25 miles.  The road continues 3 miles or so to a dead end with two camping spots.  Another spot is .25 miles  past the check station and a couple more possibilities along the way.  Free, no facilities.
  Clayton, Lake Seed, (Georgia Power & Light) from its junction with US 76 turn south on US 411 for 9.2 miles.  Turn right on Old 411 South and go 2.4 miles to Lake Rabun Road.  Turn left and continue 4.5 miles to Rabun Beach Campground #2 and another .5 miles to Rabun Beach Campground #1.  Both campgrounds already closed in 2nd week of November.

  Ellijay, Rich Mountain Wildlife Management Area hunt camp, from East Ellijay take GA 515/ GA 5/GA 2/US 76 north 7.3 miles to Rock Creek Connector.  Turn right (at the cross roads), then left and right again onto Rock Creek Road.  Follow this road 4 miles to the check station.  Free, no facilities.

      Davis Crossroads (west of La Fayette), Pocket Trail, From SR 193 south, turn right at junction (end) of SR 341 onto Hogjowl Road (Delorme shows this to be McLemore Cove Road).  Turn left on Pocket Road at 3.0 miles and follow it 1.2 miles to the parking lot at the end.
     Estelle Mine Trail, Davis Crossroads, same as above.
      Marsh Crossroads (west of La Fayette), Rocktown Trail, From junction of SR 193 and the end of SR 341, continue south on SR 193 for 5.2 miles.  Turn right on Chamberlain Road and follow it 3.5 miles to Rocky Lane.  Turn left and follow Rocky Lane 4.2? miles up mountain road to fork.  Take right hand fork 1.3 miles.  Turn left and follow road .7 miles to trail head.
  Boat Launches:
    Lake Nottely, From junction of US 76 north of Blairsville, follow US 19/129 7.4 miles.  Turn left onto Deavers Road, just before gas station and follow it 2.1 miles to boat ramp.
    Lake Nottely, From junction of US 19/129 north of Blairsville, follow SR 325 1.5 miles.  Turn left on road marked TVA Recreation before dam.  Stay left to boat ramp.
    Lake Nottely, From junction of US 19/129 north of Blairsville, follow US 76 west 7 miles to SR 325 and follow it 1.5 miles.  Cross over Pat Colwell Road and continue on dirt road to boat ramp.
    Lake Chatuge, From junction of US 76 west of Hiawassee, follow SR 288 south 1 mile to Chattahoochee National Park sign.  Turn left and follow boat ramp sign.

Chattahoochee River:

      No privacy.  Minor street noise, motorboats in the early morning, restroom fan in the background, dogs barking periodically at night.
    Florence, Rood Creek Park, From Florence Marina State Park go 3 miles south on CR 39.  Turn onto dirt road at Rood Creek Park sign and go 1.5 miles to park.  Free, no water or electric.
    Fort Gaines, Cotton Hill Park

    Florence, Rood Creek Park: From Florence Marina State Park go 3 miles south on CR 39.  Turn onto dirt road at Rood Creek Park sign and go 1.5 miles to boat ramp.

Cumberland Island National Sea Shore:

Notes: Call (912) 882-4335 1-2 months in advance (year round) if weekends desired.  Weekends were booked solid into February when I was there in mid November.  Weekdays probably OK.  Backcountry sites requires 5-10 mile walk in to sites from the ferry; beach sites require 1/2 mile walk.  Beach sites, at least, are supposed to be separated by palmettos, giving some privacy.  Still, it sounds like an awful lot of people.  I saw 15-20 cars parked at the visitor center and Crooked River State Park.  I think I'll pass.

    Elliots Bluff, Cumberland River, Turn right after exiting Crooked River State Park and follow road .3 miles to end and boat ramp.
    St. Marys, St. Marys River/Cumberland Island, Follow GA 40 south and continue to end of road.  Make right and boat ramp beyond visitor center.

Horse Creek Wildlife Management Area:

  Jacksonville, Horse Creek Wildlife Management Areahunt camp, about 7 miles east of Jacksonville  on SR 117 or 13 miles west of Lumber City (US 341) on SR 117.  Turn south at small WMA sign and go .25 miles to check point.  Right at fork to established campground.  Left at fork 2 miles to boat launch.  Free, flush toilet, shower, dumpster .25 past campground.

      Constant airplane noise till 12am.  Starts back up again at 6am.  What a shame.  In the middle of nowhere, 50 miles from anything and all that noise. 
  Folkston, Traders Hill Recreation Area & Campground, from Folkston follow SR 23/SR121 2.5 miles and turn left on Trader Hill Road.  Follow it 1.4 miles to the end and turn left on Tracy's Ferry Road and into the campground at .1 miles.   Flush toilets, water, dumpster, shower (shower room not heated).  Campers $10/night- Tents $5/night.    Camping Areas: Good    Campsite: Fair    Noise: Fair      Train noise, airplane noise throughout the night.  Train noise every 5-10 minutes for couple hours at a time at night.
  Folkston, Okefenokee Pastimes $12

  Waycross, Dixon Memorial State Forest hunt camp, from its junction with US 82/KY 520 5 miles southeast of Waycross (at the Laura S. Walker State Park sign), turn onto SR 177 and follow it 4.5 miles to the Dixon WMA check point sign or  from its junction with US 1/ US 23/ KY 23 6 miles southwest of Waycross (at the Laura S. Walker State Park sign), turn onto SR 177 and follow it 1.8 miles to the Dixon WMA check point sign.  Camping area .1 miles at the check point.  Free, flush toilets, (potable?) water at side of bath house, showers (room not heated), no trash pickup.  Train noise some nights but not others?  Note: SR 177 ends at a commercial enterprise, no boat access.

Trailheads:
  Riceboro, Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge, From the junction of I 95 & US 17, continue south on US 17 1.2 miles to Harris Neck Road.  Turn left and continue 6.4 miles to Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge on the left.
Boat Launches:
  Tybee Island, Fort Pulaski, From Skidway Island State Park turn right and follow Whitfield/Waters Street 7.5 miles to Derenee Avenue (Derenee and Waters is also the end of US 21).  Turn right and go .7 miles to the Harry Truman Parkway (East).  After 1.7 miles take the second exit which is Victory Drive, I 16/GA 26 south.  Follow I 16/GA 26 11.7 miles to boat ramp on right.
  Tybee Island, Little Tybee Island, From Fort Pulaski boat ramp above, continue on I 16/GA 26 another 4.9 to the end of I 16/Ga 26.  Continue a block or two to fishing pier parking lot.  Loop around onto Chatham Ave.  There is a beach and a sandy put in within a couple of hundred yards.  Take your pick.
Skidaway Island, The Bone Yard (Wassaw Island), From Skidway Island State Park turn left and go down Whitfield Street .4 miles to McWorter Drive (the 2nd left) and turn left.  Follow McWorter Drive 3 miles to a fork in the road.  Bear right on Osca Road and continue 1 mile to the put in.
Riceboro, Barbour Island River, From the Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge (Trailheads above) continue on Harris Neck Road .9 miles to the end of Harris Neck Road.  Bear left onto a sandy road and follow it .6 miles to the boat ramp.

   West Point Lake, From US 29 south of La Grange (at Win-Dixie) turn right on SR 109 and follow it 2.5 miles west.  Turn right on Vernon Ferry Road then bear right again on Old Roanoke Road after .6 miles and follow it .9 miles and turn right once more at McGee Bridge Park sign and follow signs to park and boat ramp.  (Free)

   West Point Lake, Follow SR 109 .6 miles past West Point Lake and turn right into Horace King Park.  Follow signs to boat ramp.  $2 ramp fee.
