Please note: I am a member of the Maine Island Trail Association.  They have asked that information about private islands provided by them not be made public.  I also choose not to make public information about parking, dump stations or camping obtained from them.  Information found elsewhere is included here.  For more information about the Main Island Trail Association please visit their website.


Acadia National Park (Mount Desert Island):

Camping Areas:
Seawall, Seawall Campground south of Southwest Harbor.  Showers at store.   $20/night RV's & $14/night tents.
Otter Creek, Blackwood Campground on ME 3.  Showers to north of campground.  Reservations required Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Cobscook Bay Area:

Camping Areas:
  Dennysville, Cobscook Bay State Park. $19/night
  Lubec, Southbay Campground.  From junction with ME 191 continue east on ME 189 1 mile.  $20-$25 for no hookups.
  Lubec, From junction with ME 189 turn right on South Lubec Road for 2.4 miles.  Turn right on Boot Cove Road for .8 miles.  Left onto dirt road.  4 turnouts suitable for van or camper.  2 washouts beyond 4th turnout.
Launch Sites:
  Dennysville, Cobscook Bay State Park between last tent area and RV area.  Dependent on tide.
  Dennysville, .7 miles north of Cobscook Bay State Park.  Mudflats beyond ramp at dead low tide.
  Dennysville, 2.7 miles south of Cobscook Bay State Park.
  Lubec, From junction with ME 189 turn right on South Lubec Road.  .2 miles on left.  Dependent on tide.

Downeast Area:

Camping Areas:
  Camden, Camden Hills State Park on US 1 just north of Camden.  $20/night.  Showers, flush toilets, 
  Jonesboro, Sunkhaze Campground, .1 miles past junction with ME186 on US1.
  Jonesport Municipal Campground, from it's junction with US1 in Jonesboro, follow ME187 10.1 miles and turn left on Kelly Point Road.  Follow Kelly Point Road .3 miles and take the first right.  The campground host may or may not be around.  Find spot out of the way and off the road.  $15/night to camp. $5/night for overnight parking.  Chemical toilets, water in a drum, dumpster.
  Milbridge, follow US 1 north .4 miles past junction with US1A.  Turn left on unsigned Wyman Road and follow it 3.7 miles to McClellan Park.  $10/night.  Flush toilet, warm outdoor shower, drinking water, trashcan.
  Trescot, South Bay Campground.  From it's junction with ME191 in Trescot continue on ME189 .6 miles.  Campground on left.  $20/night w/o hookups.
Launch Sites:
  Jonesport Municipal Campground (see above).
  Jonesport Boat Ramp.
  Machias, On US 1 in the center of town.  Dependent on tide.
  Milbridge, from it's junction with US 1, follow US 1A north .3 miles, across Narraguagus River Bridge and turn right on Bay View Road.  Follow this road .2 miles the end and the boat ramp.
  Rouge Bluffs, from it's junction with ME 187 in Jonesboro, follow US 1 north 1.5 miles.  Turn right onto Rouge Bluffs Road at the sign for Rouge Bluffs State Park.  Follow signs to Rouge Bluffs State Park.  Go through the park to the end of the road and the boat ramp.
  Starboard, towards the center of Machias turn right off US 1 on to ME 92 just north of the University of Maine.  Follow this road to the end of ME 92, past Fort O'Brian in Machiasport, past the village of Starboard, onto a dirt road to the end of the road and the launch area at 10.5 miles from the US 1.  May be tide dependent.
