This was a tough one. Take NM 516 west from Aztec to Farmington. On the east side of Farmington is a Wal-Mart on the right. It is 5.5 miles to a 2nd Wal-Mart, also on the right. Turn left on Murray Street at Blake's, the 2nd light past Wal-Mart (including the Wal-Mart turn). Go .8 miles and turn right onto NM 371. Follow NM 371 34.7 miles to mm 71.4 and turn left onto CR 7297 at the Bisti sign. Note:Do not turn at the Bisti sign at mm 77. Go 1.8 miles on a gravel road. Turn left at the 'T' and go 1.2 miles to the signed parking area on the right (not .8 miles).
Camping Areas:
Several camping spots before and after the trailhead. The Wal-Mart on the west side of Farmington allows overnight parking. Dunno about the one on the east side.
Trailheads:
There are no trailheads, just wander off where ever you chose.
Follow the road 100 yards or so past the parking area and turn left where you can. There are hoodoos beyond as well as a couple of camping spots.
After entering through the fence at the parking area I turned right to the area 1/2 mile in the distance for interesting formations.
After entering through the fence at the parking area bear right around the hills. Follow the fence around until it dead ends at a wall. Then just wander off to the right. Lots of mushroom hoodoos 100 yards. Farther on, if you bear to the right you'll come to another flat land. A canyon to the north has lots of hoo doos at the entrance. Dunno what lies beyond.
After entering through the fence at the parking area head for the two red hills in the distance. Hoo doos beyond. More hoo doos near the two black peaks in the distance. Canyon 2 miles from parking area with lots of hoo doos in the canyon and before it.
