Green Mountain National Forest
    White Rocks National Recreation Area

Overnight parking and camping not permitted at rest areas.


Green Mountain National Forest:

East Arlington (north of Bennington), US 7 exit 3. Turn left under US 7 (if heading north) and turn right after .1 miles onto South Road. Go .6 miles to Kansas Road crossing over US 7 and turn right again. .5 miles to Kelly Stand Road. National Forest boundry about 2.0 miles.

From National Forest boundry:

Several nice dispersed camping sites the first couple of miles.

4.3 miles to Lye Brook Wilderness turnoff. 2.4 miles to Lye Brook Wilderness & Branch Pond. Some dispersed camping along the way.

7.1 miles to FR71. Dispersed camping along the way. Turn left.

6.0 miles to dead end road on right. Dispersed camping.

At 8.3 miles om FR71 make a left. Dispersed camping all along CR71. Go 3.1 miles to Somerset Reservoir. Toilets. Lots of hardwoods so should have fall colors.

At 8.3 miles om FR71 make a right. Not much dispersed camping on this road. Go 5.6 miles and turn left. Go .2 miles and turn right onto VT9. 14 miles to Bennington.

At 8.7 turn right for Grout Pond Recreation Area. Camping appeared to be free. No one there in mid-September. Toilet & one water pump. Short carry to Grout Pond. 11 canoe in/walk in campsites around pond.

Pittsford (north of Rutland0, Chittenden Reservoir, Turn right onto Oxbow Road from US7 in Pittsford. At 2.1 miles this road becomes Creed Hill Road. At 3.3 miles turn right and then left onto Dam Road. Go 1.4 miles and pass under a large pipe. Go another .4 miles and turn right. Follow this road below the dam .1 miles to the boat ramp/toilet on the other side.

White Rocks National Recreation Area:

From US 7 turn right at the Mt. Tabor sign in Danby.

White Rocks National Recreation Area and Green River National Forest boundries are .7 miles from turn. FR10.

11.4 From boundries:

1.7 miles to toilet at Big Branch Overlook.

2.2 Another toilet 1/2 miles farther at the AT/LT (south) Trailhead.

Turn onto FR60 at 3.7 miles. 2.5 miles to deadend. Two dispersed site in 1st mile.

Mile 5.4 across bridge. No name road goes back 2.1 miles to creek. A sharp left an it becomes more of a 4WD road. .4 miles is a nice camp site.

6.0 Nice campsite

7.1 Exit White Rocks National Recreation Area at mile 6.9.

Mile 9.7 is FR279. 1.1 to deadend. One campsite at end.

Mile 10.7 is a nice campsite on creek.

Exit Green RIver National Forest at mile 11.4.
