10/28/02:
Spent the weekend at Lake Powell and moved up to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon yesterday. Started snowing mid-afternoon and I started to leave. Changed my mind and hung in there and only got another strong dusting of snow.
Found all services at the North Rim closed for the season. The campground was open and probably free but no water and probably no toilets. Storm clouds remained from yesterday. I took the drive to Cape Royal and got a few decent pictures but clouds, fog and mist obscured much of the scenery. I didn't even bother going to Bright Angel, the primary attraction of the North Rim.
Instead I drove the 200 miles to the South Rim. Cold and windy down there too but there was some sunshine. I drove in from the east side and made a quick tour through the popular turnouts. My main goal was to get to the South end and find a camping spot for the night.
