Bryce Canyon is about 2 1/2 hours or so from Zion Canyon but at 7500 feet is 4000 feet higher. I got near the entrance to Bryce and turned up a hill where I usually camp and immediately got stuck in some pretty serious mud. 15 minutes or so later I was able to get myself out and then found a camping spot nearby on firmer ground.
The next morning I had visions of doing the Rim Trail (11 mile round trip). I picked up the trail outside of the park at Fairyland. Dunno if it was the elevation or what but a couple of moderate hills near the beginning about did me in. I got to Sunset Point at 2.7 miles and turned back.
Very strong winds and rain made me move the van down to the bottom of the hill so I wouldn't get stuck that night. The following day was pretty miserable so I splurged and paid for a shower and then just hung out for a while. Around 11am it started snowing and within a few minutes it was just about a whiteout with more than an inch on the ground. I sat there for a while and then decided to go into the park and get a campsite. I didn't want to get caught somewhere in 2-3 feet of snow. Of course it stopped about an hour later. I tried to take the scenic drive but there was too much fog for taking pictures. An hour or two later all the snow was gone.
Morning came bright and clear. Headed back to Fairyland with the sun shining. By the time I got there fog had moved in. Hung around for a while and then move 40-50 miles east to Escalante for a couple of days so I could pick up my mail.
